Almanarre Beach

Almanarre Beach

The Almanarre beach is a nearly 5 km beach parallel to the "route du sel" (Salt Road), that runs along the western part of the double tombolo, a unique geological formation. When the "Mistral" (western wind) blows, many windsurfers and kitesurfers (experts and beginners alike) gather here.

Presentation

Depending on the wind strength, the sea can become rough and show its beautiful wilderness. By east wind, The Almanarre is protected and the shallow waters allow children to enjoy safe swimming [it is always better to swim in monitored areas]. Right on the other side of the "route du sel" (Salt Road) are the former Salt marshes, now a bird reserve, where you can observe Flamingos among many other bird species. While it can be crowded in summer, it retrieves its natural state in the winter and becomes a traffic-free path perfect for walks or bike excursions. This is a favourite Sunday activity among locals!
Parking is available in the summer at the Almanarre's roundabout and several others places on the Salt road.
