One of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", Le Castellet is an authentic village of Provence, with the appearance of a crib. Superbly preserved, in a beautiful natural environment, with its artisan shops and small restaurants in the old streets.
Standing proudly on a hilltop, Le Castellet is an ancient medieval village forming part of Le Var's "Villages of Character", curiously resembling a typical Provencal nativity scene. Nestling behind its ancient ramparts, the town can only be entered via its 2 fortified gates.
Down below, vines and olive trees stretch as far as the eye can see. With its steep streets winding up to the castle, shady squares and many craft workshops, Le Castellet offers a host of points of interest. The village is imbibed with the typical Provencal warmth and authenticity so dear to Marcel Pagnol, who shot his film "The Baker's Wife" here. Its cultural heritage, unspoiled natural environment, arts & crafts and excellent restaurants have earned Le Castellet the "Green Resort" quality label.
