Presentation
La Banque, Cultures and Landscapes museum in Hyères, presents its new summer exhibition entitled Miró from July 13 to November 24, 2024.
Organized in partnership with the Fondation Maeght, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, this exhibition reveals exceptional pieces that shed light on the prolific work of this artistic genius.
Born in Barcelona in 1893, Joan Miró established himself as a central figure in twentieth-century art. After an early career marked by cubist compositions and an embrace of surrealism in the 1920s, his artistic career was driven by a relentless quest for innovation, as he explored a multitude of techniques and media, constantly pushing back the boundaries of artistic expression.
This exhibition brings together over 73 works, including 23 sculptures, paintings, ceramics, lithographs, collages, engravings, gouaches, charcoals, Indian ink drawings and washes, produced between 1956 and 1977.
Fascinated by poetry, from the 1960s onwards Miró developed a vibrant lyricism in which shapes and colors exploded in a visual epic in which everything became a sign and a language. Joan Miró entered a decisive phase in his artistic career. Marked by a clean break with traditional pictorial conventions, this period saw the emergence of a unique and powerful visual language, which would propel him to the rank of undisputed master of modern art.
The Miró exhibition at the Musée des Cultures et du Paysage d'Hyères invites visitors on a journey into the rich, poetic universe of this visionary artist. Through a chronological and thematic tour, the exhibition reveals the many facets of his genius and strives to offer the public a better understanding of his revolutionary creative process.
