Bars and pubs are part of the Var lifestyle. The sunny Mediterranean skies, the seaside and the shady terraces of typical villages arethe perfectbackdrops for these real places to live.
Here, we live outside! Fromthe festive atmosphere of Toulon'strendybars to the typical charm ofthe cafés in the village squares, everything is an excuse to get together. The variety of landscapes and atmospheres makes it easy to get together with friends for a drink. Enjoying a sunset over the sea, listening to the wind tinkling the shrouds of the boats alongside the quayside, having a front-row seat in a busy market square...sitting down for a few minutes or a few hours, that's whatthe people of the Var do every day.
Over the last few years, a host of establishments have opened their doors, offering new concepts in ever more inventive and welcoming settings. Under a transparent bubble to make the most of the outdoors in winter, or in the festive atmosphere of shot and wine bars, the atmospheres are multiplying and offering a thousand ways to get together with friends. Atmosphere bars, particularlyin Toulon, have proliferated in a city centre that is in the midst of a major renovation. And for those looking for a bit of height, the rooftops of hotels, market halls and restaurants offer a unique view of the sea or the rooftops during the summer season.
The charm of village or local bars has not aged a day. More typical, they are the guarantors of a tradition based on conviviality and good manners. The epinal image is still very much alive: bars in the heart of a village in the shade of a plane tree or facing a typically Provençal square have seen whole generations enjoy simple, unique moments.

When you think of a bar in the Var region, and more specifically a bar in Toulon, you inevitably think of the legendary card game scene in the 1931 film Marius, adapted from the play by Marcel Pagnol. For the record, this scene, which Pagnol wanted to delete, was modified and rehearsed in secret by the actors. During the performance, Marcel Pagnol was surprised to see the scene reworked. He then wrote on the tapestry in Raimu's dressing room this little sentence: " Monsieur Raimu est un génie. 1930. Marcel Pagnol"
Today, a sculpture representing the famous scene attracts visitors, who enjoy being photographed sitting on the chairs facing César and Panisse.
