Listed as one of the « Most Beautiful Villages in France », Seillans is a particularly charming village, which has preserved the picturesque soul of the hilltop villages of Provence.
Its tiered houses, its incredible maze of cobbled streets, its shady squares and its craftsmen and artists make it a charming place to visit.
Max Ernst and his wife, Dorothéa Tanning, fell in love with the village and spent the last years of their lives here. The creator of the strange Loplop bird found his "planet" here. A museum pays tribute to their work.
A visit to the chapel of ND de l'Ormeau is also a must. Nestling in its green setting, this 12th-century chapel contains many treasures: a Roman cippus, a fragment of a paleochristian chancel, a sculpted 17th-century pulpit, ex-votos, a statue of Our Lady and, above all, a splendid 16th-century Baroque altarpiece in polychrome wood, the central panel of which, carved from a single tree trunk, represents the Virgin's family tree.
