Discover the best of the Var in autumn. With the heat of summer behind us, the mild autumn weather means you can take full advantage of the nature, landscapes and local produce of the Var. Chestnuts, walks, diving, family outings… It’s also the time of many events.
This is one of the wildest and oldest areas of Provence. Covered with cork oaks and chestnut groves, the Maures massif offers some very beautiful walks in a variety of landscapes for your autumn holidays in the Var. There are some real gems to be discovered here, such as the magnificent Chartreuse de la Verne.
In places, the chestnut groves give the massifs their pretty orangecolours.
For a long time, chestnut-growing was the lifeblood of the massif and its villages.
Collobrières, a "Village of Character", is the capital of chestnut growing. Chestnuts are celebrated here every autumn, as they are in other villages in the Massif, such as Gonfaron, La Garde-Freinet, Les Mayons and Pignans.
In the Var, autumn is all about being outdoors! On foot, on horseback, on bike and even underwater... Autumn days are still magnificently sunny, the weather is mild and you want to enjoy nature and the countryside. Whether you're hiking, mountain biking or horse-riding, it's time to get some fresh air before winter sets in. If you're a fan of glowing colours, we recommend a walk in thehinterland among the vineyards or in the Saint-Baume massif. The Maures massif also offers some beautiful colours, with its chestnut groves in places.

Autumn is also a great time for scuba diving. The water temperature remains pleasant, the summer crowds are gone, and you'll have the underwater world all to yourself. Simple discovery dives, wreck dives, advanced courses, Trimix dives... there's no shortage of dives to satisfy your desire for the deep blue.
In autumn, during the All Saints' holiday, or for a weekend, come and relax with your family in the Var. There's nothing like a change of scenery to take your mind off things. What if you slept in Bilbo the Hobbit 's den , or Fredon's, or even in a tree house, all in the middle of a miniature donkey farm? To keep things original, become the driver of a pedal-powered train with the Vélorail de la Sainte-Baume, a great time to share.
Playful and educational, the Musée des Gueules Rouges tells the story of the bauxite mines and the life of the miners. The whole family will be delighted by the visit, with a mining gallery reconstructed by former miners.
Finally, as for outdoor activities, the many adventure trails in the trees and the animal parks, educational farms and exotic gardens will delight young and old alike, even in autumn!
