In summer in the Var, head to the sea for a wide choice of activities

The Var is an unmissable sailing destination, thanks to the exceptional quality and beauty of its landscapes and seabed.

Set off to discover the most beautiful sites along the coast: 5 inhabited islands (including the more confidential Les Embiez and Bendor), authentic beaches and coves, as well as the Giens peninsula and the red rocks of the Esterel.

Paddle, kayak, flyboard, towed buoys, even pedalos... there's a whole host of activities to enjoy the sea in your own way. In the Var, summer is also a great time to try scuba diving, to discover the magnificent seabed at shallow depths.

And let's not forget the beach, of course, the symbol of summer! From wide sandy beaches to coves and inlets, you're sure to find a beach to suit you among the 230 in the Var! Early in the morning, during the day or in the evening, you can enjoy the beach at any time.

Museums...to keep cool

To learn, to discover, to be interested... and to refresh. This is certainly not the primary purpose of a museum, but in summer it's a convincing argument, we must admit. The Var is full of museums, both traditional and unusual. Among them, we have selected the following as must-sees:

  • La Citadelle, museum of maritime history: in the magnificent setting of the Citadelle overlooking the port and village of Saint-Tropez,
  • Musée de la Gendarmerie et du Cinéma in Saint-Tropez, in THE famous gendarmerie of De Funès, Galabru and their sidekicks.
  • Musée National de la Marine in Toulon, where visitors can learn about the military history of the port of Toulon, which went on to become the largest war port in the Mediterranean basin.
  • Terra Rossa, Maison de la Céramique Architecturale in Salernes, a village renowned for its terracotta tiles. To fill up on colour!
  • Musée des Gueules Rouges (Red faces museum) in Tourves, a beautiful museum on the local exploitation of bauxite, the red aluminium ore whose dust covered the miners' faces.

During your summer holidays, you'll know where to take the whole family for a few hours if you want a refreshing break in the middle of the day!
