Come and discover the military destiny of the port of Toulon, from the creation of its arsenal in the 17th century to its development over the centuries to become the largest war port in the Mediterranean basin.
The museum is the true memory of Toulon's arsenal, with its majestic monumental gateway (1738), and tells the human and technical story of the arsenal's men and women since the second half of the 17th century in an educational and attractive way.
Highlights include anarea dedicated to the rope factory, built to Vauban's plans; the large 250-year-old training models; the figureheads and stern decorations, often the last remaining reminders of the ships of the time; the model of the extraordinary galley Dauphine; the area dedicated to the Toulon penal colony; the scuttling of the Fleet in November 1942; and today's Navy, built around submarines and aircraft carriers.
