Do you want to get moving and do something on the water? Take advantage of the activities on the lakes and rivers of the Var to try out a water sports activity in the midst of a superb natural heritage and panorama.
Water sports are one of the most popular activities in the Var. Most are open all year round, so there's something for everyone, whatever their level.
Sun and wind in your hair - what better feeling than being out on the water!
For several years now, innovative watercraft have been appearing on the scene, such as the stand-up paddle, unknown 10 years ago. So it's a good reason to try a new sport. Practising an activity in the water is also very good for your health if you're looking to improve your balance and endurance.
However, like any sporting activity, you need to take certain precautions before you start. You should also pay attention to the weather, which can affect the conditions in which you practice your sport in the water: if it's hot, remember to bring a hat, water and sun cream to protect yourself from the sun! A lifejacket is also compulsory.
Known for their accessibility, the lakes and rivers of Le Var offer a wide range of activities. For an outing with family or friends, we recommend:
These different activities are offered by a number of service providers for hire by the hour, half-day or full day.
For a thrill-packed experience, a range of water sports can be enjoyed in teams on the waters of lakes and rivers.
Head for Les Salles-du-Verdon or Castellane for canyoning, which will give you a whole new perspective on the waterfalls and rocks of the Verdon gorges. The programme includes climbing, swimming and jumping into the water, so you can discover the hidden corners of this extraordinary heritage as a group.
You can also book trips to discover the canyons around the Var river in the Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes de Hautes Provence.
Aboard an inflatable raft with paddles, rafting is generally enjoyed by up to 8 people. The currents are strong, so you'll need to do your utmost to manoeuvre the boat as a cohesive unit. Thrills guaranteed!
Fancy gliding across the water? Hydrospeed is a superb activity, for swimming in rivers and hurtling down waterfalls. In terms of equipment, you'll need a foam board specially designed for sliding your arms, and a pair of flippers. Considered to be very sporty, and due to the crowded nature of the rivers, this activity requires a minimum age of 13.
